Third Segment Makes This Film!Reviewed byAaronCapenBannerVote: 8/10

Trio of stories starring the late Karen Black in three different roles.

First has her playing a shy teacher who is desired by one of her male students, but gets more than he expects from her...OK story is watchable, but not particularly memorable in itself.

Second story about two entirely different sisters(?) is far too predictable, though still not bad, just obvious.

Third tale however is a knockout, and the stuff of legend. Evil African tribal doll is accidentally brought to life by a woman in her apartment, who desperately tries to escape from, then destroy the thing. Does she succeed? Chilling, knock you out of your shoes ending gave children nightmares for years; segment is incredibly suspenseful and tense, a true masterpiece that redeems the whole film. Watch out for that doll!

three is definitely company here (and you'd better believe that #3 is the charm)Reviewed bylee_eisenbergVote: 10/10

I've read about how the '70s saw several TV movies (e.g., "Brian's Song" and "Sybil"). It seems that when people make the list, they often forget about "Trilogy of Terror". This one has three vignettes, each featuring Karen Black in the midst of something horrific. What's really fascinating is how they manage to make it so scary without having gore or special effects (actually, maybe that's why it's so scary; gore and special effects would make it silly).

In the first segment, Black plays a literature teacher forced to have an affair with a lecherous student (Robert Burton)...but boy, does she have a surprise for him! In the second segment, she plays two sisters - one laid-back nebbish and one evil floozy - and the nebbish wants to get rid of the floozy...however, there's another side to the whole predicament. The third segment is no doubt the most famous, where she gets terrorized by the killer Zuni fetish...and wait until you see what ends up happening! Anyway, this just goes to show what you can accomplish with simple horror. I certainly didn't see any of those endings coming. But also, "Trilogy of Terror" shows that Karen Black is a better actress than we give her credit for. Truly worth seeing.

And remember, be careful with those chemicals!

The Most Memorable of the ABC 'Movie of the Week' SeriesReviewed byriverheadestelleVote: 10/10

Well, rather than repeat what has already been said, I feel that this flick still gives me pleasure today. I'm glad it's one of the easier titles to find, compared to so many others which are out-of-circulation or lost.

1975: I was a geeky kid still adjusting to the eastern Long Island town my family recently moved to: Sag Harbor. I just know that the morning after 'Trilogy's' debut in 1975, everyone in my homeroom at Pierson High School was talking about it! I will call this the "Psycho" of the small screen, and it will live in my memory forever!

Ironically enough, I read somewhere that Karen Black was not so keen on doing this movie originally. She only changed her mind when then husband Robert Burton was offered a part too. He played the blackmailing college student in the first (or second?) story. About six or seven years ago, I came across the actual doll --- or a very good replica --- that somebody was selling on Ebay! I wish I jumped all over it. It would have made a great piece of TV memorabilia.
